Instructions for Discovery via Hostname (Customer and Reseller)
Step 1: Let the Help Desk know when a Customer would prefer to use Hostnames. There is something we need to change on the backend to help make the process go as smoothly as possible.
Below are how either the customer or reseller can enter the hostnames into the DCA.
Customer Instructions:
- Click on the "Application Settings Tab" -
- You can choose to add hostnames individually or...
- Click
on the "Import" button to add an entire list. We recommend copying the
hostnames from an Excel spreadsheet. First column will have the desired
Zone name, and second column will have the Hostname. Copy the 2 columns
and paste them into the Import Point.
Reseller Instructions:
- Once you have the hostnames, we suggest creating an excel spreadsheet for easy copy-pasting.
- Because you will need to enter this command into IMIL for every hostname. The name being the desired Zone Name, and host being the hostname:
- add lookup {name}, {host}
- With the data in a pasteable format, go to the desired monitor in the portal.
- Click
on the "IMIL" tab, then click the "Multi-line" button, and paste all of
the data from your spreadsheet. Press "Send" and the DCA will attempt
to discover every hostname.
** A note about hostnames vs. discovery ranges **
There
is currently no tab on the portal that lists discovered hostnames, the
way there is for Discovery Ranges. If you want to see the hostnames that
have been added to the DCA, you must go to the Monitor's IMIL tab in
the portal and type the command:
list lookups
